January is about over, and February / Febrero signals the time for birds, whales, Valentines, and festivals in our neighboring country, Mexico (in particular, Baja).
I didn’t know this, but Groundhog’s Day is also celebrated as Dia de la Candelaria
in Mexico. As here in the States, it signals the mid-point between winter solstice (December 21 or 22) and the spring equinox (March 20 or 21), but it is also a religious / Christian holiday representing 40 days after the birth of Christ and signaling the end of Christmas (put very, very simply).
All I know is that I hope the Groundhog does not see his shadow. It hasn’t been a bad winter here in Southern California, but I do prefer longer days and flip flops as opposed to shoes!
Anyway, I will get back to February and try not to think about summer months a-comin’

Day of The Dead… I never liked to think of this day. I was disappointed when I learned that Halloween was the Eve of this holiday … of this scary, unholy holiday. I did celebrate Halloween, but it was just dress-up time… a big costume party and candy fest! I didn’t know. Most of us…
